My Recent Vinyl Finds:

On February 04, 2017 I went to my store in Berkeley to do some jazz vinyl digging. While digging I discovered some great jazz vinyl that was reasonable priced and in great condition. I took home seven jazz albums and two 12″ singles from Janet Jackson’s Control album: What Have You Done For Me Lately and Control.

Recent Vinyl Title:

  1. Ella Fitzgerald & Count Basie – Ella & Basie (Verve V6-4061) A great album released in 1963 and arrangements by the legendary Quincy Jones.
  2. Plenty Plenty Soul – Milt Jackson (Atlantic SD 8811) Another legendary album with arrangements by Quincy Jones. Milt Jackson is joined by Horace Silver, Art Blakey, and Percy Heath.
  3. King Curtis & Champion Jack Dupree – Blues At Montreux (Atlantic SD 1837) Barrelhouse Piano meet Soul Sax on this fabulous album recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1973.
  4. Richard Holmes – After Hours (Pacific Jazz PJ 59) A chilled trio set from 1962 give listeners a taste of how Richard Holmes performs live.
  5. Jimmy McGriff – At The Apollo (Sue LP 1017) At The Apollo finds Jimmy McGriff at the beginning of his career in the early 60’s is accompanied by Rudolph Johnson on sax, Larry Frazier on rhythm guitar and drummer Willie Saint Jenkins.
  6. King Curtis & The Kingpins – King Size Soul (Atlantic SD 33-231) Classic Curtis during the sixties.
  7. Thelonious Monk – Plays Duke Ellington (Riverside OJC-024) In 1955 Monk recorded for the first time an album of songs that were not his own compositions but of the master Duke Ellington. Monk was joined by Oscar Pettiford on bass and Kenny Clarke on the drums.
  8. Janet Jackson – What Have You Done For Me Lately (A&M SP-5106) & Control (A&M SP-3905) Classic extended versions from the classic Control album from 1986.
